Conifer Realty, LLC earns award for conversion of the historic Springside School in Burlington Township into affordable housing
Burlington Township, N.J. (June 13, 2014) – Conifer Realty, LLC’s conversion of the Springside School into affordable housing for Burlington Township received New Jersey Future’s Smart Growth Award. It was the second year in a row that Conifer won the award, having received it last year for the Whitman Park Redevelopment in Camden.
The original school building, dating back to 1916, was converted into 31 apartments with a community room located in the former gymnasium. 44 units were added in a newly constructed addition, 16 of which are set aside for people with special needs and the remaining are for seniors ages 55 and up.
“Now new life has been breathed into the building and its surrounding community,” says New Jersey Future’s website, “thanks to an imaginative redevelopment plan that combines forces of the township, private enterprise, and nonprofit entity.” New Jersey Future is a non-profit, non-partisan organization formed to promote responsible land-use policies.
The non-profit Moorestown Ecumenical Neighborhood Development, Inc. (MEND) partnered with Conifer Realty, LLC to preserve one of the area’s cherished buildings which holds a place on the National Register of Historic Places. The apartment community features: a community room, smart card laundry center, fitness center, and a fully-stocked library, with a patio and gazebo.
