Burlington Township, N.J. (December 11, 2014) – Conifer Realty, LLC and its development partner MEND Inc., are honored to receive, yet another award for the conversion of the Springside School Apartments. Receiving the 2014 Supportive Housing Project Award in the Large-Scale Development Category from the Supportive Housing Association of New Jersey is a great accomplishment.
The development consists of the historic renovation of a former elementary school into apartments. The original school building, dating back to 1916, was converted into 31 apartments, featuring a community room located in the former gymnasium. 44 units were added in a newly constructed addition, 16 of which are set aside for people with special needs and the remaining units are for seniors ages 55 and up. The development was commended for its unique and successful approach to providing supportive housing for the mentally ill. Supportive services for the special needs residents are provided by Legacy Treatment Services.
The Supportive Housing Association promotes permanent, affordable housing for individuals of low income with access to flexible supportive services. Such housing is designed for people with special needs, including those with mental, physical and developmental disabilities, as well as people who are homeless. Supportive housing offers a safe and affordable place to call home.
