On September 25, Lisa Kaseman (NY Regional Vice President) participated in the “Tax & Zoning Policies Around New York” panel at the 2019 Upstate NYSAFAH Conference. Lisa, along with the other panelists, were asked to share their knowledge on zoning, PILOTs, 581-a and IDA exemptions. Panelists included Timothy Henzy (Smith & Henzy Advisory Group), Erika Wood (Bond Schoeneck & King Attorneys), Esq., Betsy Brugg, Esq. (Woods Oviatt Gilman, LLP), Steven Hyde (Genesee County EDC) and the Moderator was Meghan Altidor (Nixon Peabody LLP)
There was a wealth of knowledge and experience between the four panelists which allowed for an educational and diverse conversation. Both Lisa and Steven previously worked together on Big Tree Glen and Jerome Senior and were able to share the benefits of having a good working relationship with an IDA.
Conifer has had many different experiences with tax and zoning policies throughout our years in business. We are honored that Lisa was asked to be on this panel and represent lessons learned and offer perspective from the Developer’s side.
While Lisa was sharing her tax and zoning expertise, Mike DiBiase (District Manager) was simultaneously on the “Engaging Tenants: The importance of strong leadership” panel. Robert Lampher (Executive Vice President of Portfolio Management, Conifer Realty) moderated the panel which alongside Mike, included Lisa Wilcox-Erhardt (The Community Builders, Inc.), Teresa Gonzalez, (DalyGonzalez), and Luvene Ford (Keeler Park Tenants Association).
Mike and Luvene have built a strong relationship over the years between the Keeler Park Tenants Association, the residents of Keeler Park and the management team. Together, they were able to share how this partnership has positively impacted the community engagement of residents, focusing on how the strong communication has allowed for positive relationship building that has left residents feeling heard and empowered.
Conifer had a strong presence at this year’s conference, displaying that our Team is full of experts who are committed to sharing their knowledge in order to help educate others and make the affordable housing industry stronger. Can’t wait to see what is discussed at the 2020 Conference!
