Albany, NY (May 1, 2014)

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the start of construction of Wincoram Commons, a major redevelopment project in Coram, Suffolk County. The project was named a priority by the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council (LIREDC), and will redevelop a former vacant and blighted site into a new, mixed-use development with 176 workforce apartments and commercial space. The project will inject nearly $56 million into the local economy and is expected to create approximately 145 construction jobs and more than 30 new, permanent jobs.

Moorestown Ecumenical Neighborhood Development (MEND) and its joint venture development partner Conifer Realty, LLC, along with project partners Burlington Township and New Jersey Housing & Mortgage Finance Agency, have been named a winner of New Jersey Future’s prestigious 2014 Smart Growth Awards for their collective work on Springside School Apartments in Burlington - a project that involved adapting an unused school to provide senior and special-needs residences and services.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) gave its approval on March 19 to the variances required for Conifer Realty and the Arab-American Community Development Corporation to proceed with construction of the Tajdeed Residences project in Old Kensington. The board took its action with the support of the neighborhood’s Registered Community Organization, South Kensington Community Partners, which voted to endorse the request in September of last year.
